The NBT: Smart Fur

Is this REALLY low-maintenance pet the next big thing?

Shelby: Now this week, if you like animals but don’t like feeding or walking them, this could be your perfect pet. It is called Smart Fur. Basically, a small piece of fur attached to a little robot. There are sensors – bits of conductive thread – actually sewn into the fake animal fur. When someone touches the fur, it creates a change in a weak electrical current, that makes the robot react to human touch. It is a lot like the way a live cat or dog might respond when you pet it, or try to tickle it. Smart Fur reacts to the touch of a hand by moving up and down like it’s breathing, and it can even mimic a cat purring.
