The Pink Spiders

feature-cover-pink-spiders.png

From press about their ambitious desire to be the best in rock and roll to their more modest claims about their social activities in high school, The Pink Spiders are anything but your average twenty-something band. Since these guys burst onto the scene back in 2004 with their first EP, The Pink Spiders are Taking Over!, they’ve been busy recording and making their presence known to fans.

On their upward climb to success, The Pink Spiders have experienced their fair share of water down the spout — including sleeping in subways, donating plasma to fund their tour and putting their clothes in Laundromat dryers to warm themselves when it was cold outside while on tour.

Yet despite these hardships, members Nathan Hansen, Nick Slack and Matt Friction (whose names sound destined for rock-stardom), know how to have a good time. It’s no wonder that these neon-wearing, seemingly shy-on-camera musicians are a fave among teens and critics alike as they continue to weave their web of pop-rock riffs, sass and modern punk flare.

Lyrics: "Maria"

We’re melting in between the building and bus

It’s you and me, but honestly, it’s still not us

Cause you’ve got plans, I understand

And I’ll be on tour when you get back

And while we’re so unlikely love,

It’s only you I’m thinking of

But it’s so hard when you won’t let me tell you

What you want to hear

Let down your guard, if only just a little

Cause you know I already have

And please leave, Maria

Cause every lie you step inside

Just drives me to the edge

And please leave, maria

Cause falling out of love

Is worse than falling from the ledge

Together sleeping on the ceiling

Somehow the air we’re in has stolen the gravity

And I don’t care if people stare or say I’ve changed

Cause that’s not fair

It’s just not quite so cold

I’m happy not to sleep alone

And is it love?

Cause I’ve never thought about it that way

And if it’s love, I think that you’ll know

And even if you think you can’t

Please just try to understand

Lyrics: "Busy Signals"

Woo-ho, we're a stunning contradiction,

A pieced-together picture

Of a satellite trying to fly

Woo-ho, this is feeling like stick-up

And I'm about to plan my getaway

Woo-ho, I guess it's better late than never

It's scary, but whatever

At least it didn't lead me to lie

Woo-ho, even I'm prepared to settle

But I'm not about to give my heart away

To subjects without predicates

You chain me to the telephone

To keep me close when you're alone

I'm hanging up, you're begging me to stay

The busy signals compromise

Your innocence and alibis

So I'm about to let you walk away

Woo-ho, this is easier than lying

I'm not afraid of dying

But that doesn't mean I'm ready to go

Woo-ho, all the animals are trying

But I just wanna survive anyway

Woo-ho, we're a dangerous progression,

A volatile succession,

A saturation ready to blow

Woo-ho, it's a chemical reaction,

The acids and the bases break away

To subjects without predicates

You chain me to the telephone

To keep me close when you're alone

I'm hanging up, you're begging me to stay

The busy signals compromise

Your innocence and alibis

So I'm about to let you walk away

We're trapped,

Tangled in the slack

A finger on the trigger

And a saddle on our backs

So get back,

The subtlety's a trap

We'll never take it easy

And we'll never take it back

'Cause we're trapped

Tangled in the slack

We'll never take it easy

And we'll never take it back
