We told you about free-running when we covered Parkour a couple of months ago, but did you know some people like to take that concept a step further, and run without shoes? It might be great for your feet, which, with 26 bones, 33 joints and 20 muscles, are actually pretty complicated, but what about your skin? Step on an errant pebble or worse, and you’ll be out of commission while you heal.
A new shoe called the VibramFive Fingers, might be the solution. These shoes are designed to keep your foot as close to the ground and in as much contact with it as possible, allowing you to walk (or run, or climb rocks, or whatever you’d like) as close to barefoot as possible. The makers claim that staying close to the ground will strengthen your leg and foot muscles, makes you better balanced, and even improve your posture.
But what do you think? Are these new-fangled footwear going to leave you footloose and fancy free? Or are they just another fitness fad? Vote now!
