As schools fight budget cuts and students push back against administrators over graduation requirements, some have decided that a good compromise for both issues is eliminating the senior year of high school.
For many, particularly in the second half of their final year of high school, the perception is that not much learning happens anyway. And for school budgets, reducing the number of students by 25 percent can save serious cash.
Others argue that students need their senior year to have some much needed time where the pressure is off before heading out into the real world or that schools shouldn’t eliminate a year of education to save money.
