Paying the Players?

12.03.12

On today's show, Scott Evans told you about a case involving NCAA athletes and a video game company, EA Sports.

The company makes a lot of money from one of its games, NCAA Football, which lets players pick their fave team and face off against other teams online or against a computer. The players in the game even look a lot like the real young athletes playing for college teams. And while it's pretty cool for a young athlete to have their own video game, for some players, it would have been cooler if they'd been paid by the company who used their image in the game.

That's why one former football star filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of all the former players used in EA games. NCAA rules prevent college athletes from making money from their sport, but depending on the ruling, thousands of current and former players would be affected.

We want to hear from you on this issue. Vote in the poll and leave a comment telling us if you think college athletes should be paid when someone uses their image. Be sure to include your first name, age and state if you'd like the comment to be used on the show.
