My Summer Reading List

By Shelby Holliday 06.16.2014 blog

Whether you’re traveling this summer or just kickin’ it by the pool, you can never go wrong with a good book. Here are a few of my fast-read faves:

Knowing Your Value by Mika  Brzezinski

A must-read for all females thinking about the future! Whether you’re looking for your first job in high school or have a long-established career, Mika’s insight and advice is eye-opening, encouraging, and empowering.

Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabanekaffir-boy-cover-shelby-list

My sister gave this book to me when I returned from covering Nelson Mandela’s funeral in South Africa, and it gave me a whole new perspective on apartheid. Matharbane’s first-hand account of life in the Jo’burg slums will give you a greater appreciation for freedom and opportunity with every page.

Doesn’t matter how old you are, the great Dr. Seuss is always a blast to read. I love the message conveyed in this book, and it’s a good reminder to work hard and roll with the punches.
