NASA took its first close-up picture of Mars in 1965, and since then, there have been some fascinating discoveries about the mysterious Red Planet. Some of these discoveries lead some scientists to believe that the planet can be inhabited by humans some day. In fact, preparations are already on the way and volunteers are being recruited to establish the first human colony in space.
Just like Earth, Mars has polar ice caps and clouds in its atmosphere, seasonal weather patterns, volcanoes, canyons and — as you learned on the show today — even free-flowing water! But Mars is in many ways different than our home planet — it is rocky, cold and dry.
