Red Nose Day: How to Get Involved

Clowns may get a bad rap for looking a bit creepy, but that classic red nose will always represent fun, laughter and the joys of being silly—especially on Red Nose Day! On Thursday, May 26, people around the world will wear red noses with pride as they participate in “fun-raising” to help fight youth poverty. Half of the money raised goes toward providing meals, safety and education to children right here in the United States, while the other half goes toward programs in the poorest regions of Africa, Asia and Latin America. Over the cause’s 25 years, $1 billion has been raised!

Celebrities like Emma Watson, Nick Canon and One Direction have joined in the fun for this great cause, and there are many ways you can get involved too:

• Spread Red Nose Day awareness on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.
• Gather a group of your friends, classmates or teammates and ask family and community members to sponsor your silliness. Then decide just how silly you’re going to get. This can be something as simple as picking up a red nose at Walgreens and dawning it the whole day, or wearing all red. Or, you could go as far as to wear a “Shirt of Hurt.” That means finding a band or sports team t-shirt you would never be caught in normally and wearing it to school!
• You could also organize a bake sale or car wash. Anything goes, as long as it’s safe and abides by the Red Nose Day Dos and Don’ts.
