Women of color from low-income families face a unique set of life challenges that can limit career opportunities and prevent them from pursuing their dreams. That’s why broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien created The PowHERful Foundation. She started the organization after witnessing firsthand the struggles so many faced in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and through it, equips young, hardworking female high school and college students with resources, mentorship and financial assistance to help them succeed in college and beyond.
Unlocking, untapped potential is a goal of the foundation’s free, day-long Enrichment Conferences. They began in 2012 and are now held annually across the country to provide educational, professional, and personal development support to young women through workshops, Q & As and inspiring speakers.
