Not everyone likes math, but studying the subject can come in handy once you’re out of school and in the real world. But how about higher level math like advanced algebra, trigonometry and calculus?
Some professors believe that pushing everyone to study advanced math prevents teachers from developing their students’ talents. Part of the reason is that more students drop out of school because they fail advanced math, therefore it should be made optional.
Proponents of the subject say that it can provide more career options and higher-paying jobs for students in the long run, especially with new, rapidly-changing technologies.
We want to know what you think — should all students be required to take advanced math? Vote and tell us your opinion in the comments section below. We will feature the results of the poll and some of your comments on the show.
Students should have a choice in the type of math classes they take. If they know the occupation they may want to go into requires a higher level math, then they should have the choice to take those classes. However, if they do not want to take higher math they should not be required.
No;because what if they dont understand regular math and they get a failing grade.
No;because what is they dont even understand regular math they would fail math and maybe they play sports they would not be eligible
No, students should not be forced down a path they don’t want. On the topic of 5% of jobs needing it, the students that want to persue it should take it. Many teachers(not all) say it is reqired in the “real world” to students who don’t want to persue it.
I think it should because you use math every day and that it should be a requirenment because it would not be smart to not take math. I am from General Ray Davis Middle School in rockdale County, in Georgia
You should not be forced to do it only if you want to.
It may be better for us but doesn’t mean we want to do it.
Yes because you can have more job opportunities.
I do not think they should have to because like the guy said only 5% jobs use that math.
No, because it may be too difficult for some people and too easy for others.
No because it’s a chance to get to explore the wild and not have the stuff that your house.
