With all the controversies surrounding both presidential candidates during this year’s election cycle, some voters may feel reluctant to share publicly which box they checked on their ballot. But for those who can’t wait to snap that selfie in the voting booth and share it on social media — make sure you’re not breaking the law.
That’s right, in some states, taking a photo that shows how you checked your ballot is illegal and can lead to fines and even jail time! One of these states is South Dakota, where the secretary of state says seeing how other people voted may influence other voters’ choices or even pressure people to vote. In New York, the ban is part of an old law designed to prevent people from selling their vote. Other states that prohibit ballot selfies say it’s a way to protect the right to ballot secrecy and privacy.
California legislators, on the other hand, think that sharing a photo of your checked ballot could actually encourage more people to vote. If you’re curious where your state stands on the issue, check out the interactive map below.
So what do you think? Should ballot selfies be allowed? Vote and tell us your opinion in the comments section below. As always, we will air the results of the poll and some of your comments on the show!

Yes because it can help encourage people
I think they should take a selfie and like do it five feet away so nobody can see who you are voting for.
yes people should have the freedom of taking selfies of their votes and I know their are copy cats in the world but you could simply edit your vote out
Yes they should be allowed and people can take selfies as they please ,but you still have to respect others privacy in who they’re voting for
I think selfies should be allowed because there is nothing wrong they are just taking a picture of them voting they just want to share how happy they are
I think no because some peopled get pressured to do things on the internet. And plus your not supposed to tell anyone who you voted for!
