EDGARTOWN, Mass. (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama will make his 11th and likely final presidential trip to Asia in early September.
Obama will travel to China and Laos from Sept. 2-9. The stop in Laos will make him the first U.S. president to visit the Southeast Asian nation.
In China, Obama will participate in a summit with leaders from the world’s top 20 industrialized and developing nations. He plans separate talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In Laos, Obama will attend a pair of regional conferences. He’ll also meet with President Bounnhang Vorachit and other officials.
The White House says Obama will use the Asia swing to continue to promote a sweeping trans-Pacific trade deal he wants enacted, despite broad opposition to it.
